The Chair of the Commission, Agim Çeku said this meeting was very important and emphasized the commitment of the Kosovo Government and of the Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi to concluding this task in the interest of all those who contributed to the freedom and independence of the country.

The Commission decided that after 15 November all these categories will be able to apply for official recognition of the status of martyr, war invalid, veteran, KLA internee and member of the KLA. In the meeting, they unanimously approved the application forms and application methodology.

“Each municipality has war societies offices and each person who wants their status recognized, should go to these offices and the respective society”, said Mr. Çeku and he added that, “after application, I will request the verification of this information from the respective commander in the chain of command, the unit commander and up to the Operational Zone Commander, or the KLA General Staff”.

Furthermore, Minister Çeku said that, “The Commission will continually receive applications, it will review them, it will verify the correctness of data and it will recognize status with its signature and after this, they will enjoy all benefits foreseen by the law approved in the Assembly. The period of submitting applications is from 15 November 2012 up to 28 February 2013”.

“This is a good opportunity for us to reach a precise number for all those, who in the first place died for our country, for invalids and veterans, and all those who were part of the KLA” said Çeku.

“The Commission is not here to reduce, restrict or deny the contribution given to the KLA, but to recognize that contribution through status, so that they can enjoy their benefits as quickly as possible,” – said Mr. Agim Çeku.

In the meeting, Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi said that all expenses regarding the Commission’s activities would be covered by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo.

The next meeting of the Commission for recognition and verification of the status of veterans, invalids and KLA members and internees, will be held on November 14, 2012.
